Mucus and albumin in the urine with kidney pain were one of the symptoms of the disease. Ehret’s philosophy was that every disease is somehow related to a mucus-clogged system, resulting in the accumulation of undigested food substances, ever since in childhood. This diet recommends two meals daily and they should be based primarily on fresh fruit and vegetables, either cooked or raw together with some small amounts of raw nuts.

This diet also recommends long fasts and this may be very dangerous if there are no medical supervisions. At the same time, dieters might experience uncomfortable detox symptoms, especially at the beginning of the diet. It is also socially troublesome and very hard to eat out. The Mucusless diet is low in protein, essential fats and certain minerals.
